Our Day
While our approach to learning is different than a typical preschool we still have a similar routine that will help foster an effective learning environment.
Children are dropped off at the gate at 9:00 am, dressed and ready for the outdoors. You will need to sign your child in, they will hang up their bag and get ready to start the day. We start in centres (mud kitchen, loose parts, building etc.) just like a traditional preschool, the big difference is that we do ours outside!
We will then have a quick circle time where we will talk about the weather, sing songs, talk about our letter of the day, read a story or one of our many other fun activities.
Following circle time we will have a snack that you will need to bring from home. On days that are -10 to -20 degrees celsius we will have snack indoors to give our bodies a chance to warm up.
We will then have some more play time, either exploring our environment, gross motor play, or more centre time "in" our classroom.
While we hope for the best and plan to be outside in all weather conditions unfortunately sometimes that can not be done safely in Alberta. On days that are colder than -20 we will spend the day indoors, if there is lightening or any other unsafe conditions we will also come inside. It is very important to always have your child dressed for the weather, we will be outside in the snow, rain, and sunshine.
